The growing U.S. economy and improving business environment is bringing black workers back into the labor force, BET founder Robert Johnson told CNBC on Friday.
In January, the Labor Department reported the unemployment rate among black workers was at its lowest since at least the early 1970s, when the government began tracking the data. The unemployment rate for black Americans spiked in January and then fell in February. The rate was unchanged in March at 6.9 percent.
“When you look at that [January report], you have to say something is going right,” said Johnson, a Democrat and founder and chairman of The RLJ Cos.
“You have to take encouragement from what’s happening in the labor force and the job market,” Johnson told “Squawk Box.” “When you look at African-American unemployment, … you’ve never had African-American unemployment this low and the spread between African-Americans and whites narrowing.”
20 politically incorrect songs that’d be wildly controversial today – USA Today, 2018/04/12
There’s nothing like hearing a song come on the radio or flicker across a Spotify playlist that you haven’t encountered in a while, and realizing, “Was this song always this offensive?”
The answer: Yes, it probably was. Standards have changed quite a bit in terms of what references the culture at large deems offensive in its hit songs, from casual homophobia in pop songs from Katy Perry and Taylor Swift to the jaw-dropping lyrical content of some Rolling Stones classics.
Go to the link for the list… but one entry was interesting.
Song:Ebony and Ivory by Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder, 1982
Choice lyric: “Ebony and ivory / Live together in perfect harmony / Side by side on my piano keyboard / Oh lord, why don’t we?”
Why it wouldn’t fly today: McCartney and Wonder meant well with their hyper-literal interpretation of race relations. But their message of “people are the same, there’s good and bad in everyone, so let’s just get along” would be interpreted as hilariously naïve by the more woke factions of today’s cultural discourse.
Really? Is it too much to ask, for different people who are citizens of the same country, to look past differences and get along? If I am choosing between one or the another… give me Stevie and Paul.
Schumer Will Vote ‘No’ On Judicial Nominee Because He Is White – Daily Caller, 2018/02/28
The Democrat from New York said on the Senate floor that he could not vote to approve Marvin Quattlebaum for a vacancy on the U.S. District Court for the District of South Carolina because he is a white man replacing two black Obama nominees.
“The nomination of Marvin Quattlebaum speaks to the overall lack of diversity in President Trump’s selections for the federal judiciary,” Schumer complained. “Quattlebaum replaces not one, but two scuttled Obama nominees who were African American.”
“As of February 14th, 83 percent of the President Trump’s confirmed nominees were male, 92 percent were white. That represents the lowest share of non-white candidates in three decades,” he continued. “It’s long past time that the judiciary starts looking a lot more like the America it represents. Having a diversity of views and experiences on the federal bench is necessary for the equal administration of justice.”
What did ML King say? …something about content of character, not color of skin? Not so much with Schumer…
Race is just a tool in the political toolbox to increase their leverage. It could be racism that favors blacks, or racism that favors whites. It doesn’t matter. What matters is how much leverage can be gained in their favor. They will throw whomever under bus for more leverage to help win their issues.
Kennedy accuses Emanuel of ‘strategic gentrification plan’ to force blacks out of Chicago – Chicago Tribune, 2018/01/03
Democratic governor candidate Chris Kennedy on Wednesday accused Mayor Rahm Emanuel of leading a “strategic gentrification plan” aimed at forcing African-Americans and other minorities out of Chicago to make the city “whiter” and wealthier.
“My belief is they’re being pushed out. This is involuntary. That we’re cutting off funding for schools, cutting off funding for police, allowing people to be forced to live in food deserts, closing hospitals, closing access to mental health facilities. What choice do people have but to move, to leave?” Kennedy said. “And I think that’s part of a strategic gentrification plan being implemented by the city of Chicago to push people of color out of the city. The city is becoming smaller and as it becomes smaller, it’s become whiter.”
Throw in the crime aspect, and it’s not a strectch to believe this. Emanuel is known for his statement about never letting a crisis go to waste… this would be taking it to the next level… manufacturing a crisis to cause change. Emanuel never directly addresses the accusation.
These seem to be continuing to exist. We get the sensational headline about a hate crime… then it comes out as a hoax, and there is little fanfare. So even though I am starting this thread today, I will go back and retrieve prior hoaxes as well.

I am against all things Cowboys, but Jerry Jones is on the money.
2017/10/22 – Cowboys owner Jerry Jones says the NFL is being damaged by protests – Dallas Star-Telegram
“There is no question the league is suffering negative effects from these protests,” Jones said.
Jones was more expansive than he’s ever been regarding an acknowledgment of the concerns of the players, who are protesting racism and social injustice. He said the league can’t help in those areas in a meaningful way if it is damaged.
Jones said the players he talked to all know the NFL is being damaged. He said the Cowboys sponsors have expressed “concerns” about the anthem protests and damage to the league.
“All times, I want to do the right thing by them and their customers,” Jones said. “I have a great responsibility to the people who support us. We all get great benefits from having a lot of people watch our games. All of us do.”
The book, Santa’s Husband, goes on sale Oct. 10 and tells the story of a black Santa Claus and his white husband who both live in the North Pole. Santa’s spouse frequently fills in for his husband at malls, according to a description of the book Harper Design provided to TIME.
Daniel Kibblesmith, who is a staff writer for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and co-author of How to Win at Everything, penned the parody children’s book after tweeting in December that he would only tell his future child Santa was black. “If they see a white one, we’ll say ‘That’s his husband,’” Kibblesmith wrote.
Harper Design said the book is meant for all ages.
There are no sacred cows with liberalism.
It’s one thing to except different lifestyles as part of society.
It’s another to make every single facet of society conform to a lifestyle.
This is a “parody children’s book”. Children who still believe in Santa, probably won’t understand the parody – if there is any.
